Diet Tip for the Day

A great way to cut out calories is to drink lots of water.  You are supposed to drink 4 liters a day which is a lot.  By replacing water with what you would normally drink it will cut out calories.  Additionally, it will make you burn calories as your body has to process the water. It's not a ton of calories, but it is some.  While your body is processing the water, it is also cleansing you of other toxins in your body which is another benefit to drinking lots of water.

A few things to avoid :

1. Soda

2. Juices ( I know, we all think they are healthy BUT they have tons of sugar in them )

3. Creams and milk

You can substitute Almond Milk for milk.  It is lower in calories and has no Lactose.  Almond milk does taste good too. It might take a bit of getting used to but I can't tell the difference now.

There has been a lot of research done that shows many Americans are dehydrated.

3,500 Calories Up or Down is 1 pound of Fat.

Little things like drinking water and even if you are not super active, but walking around the block a few times will lower your total calories for the day.

Calories taken in - Calories burned = Calories for the day.

You can have a metabolic test done for about $100 that will tell you exactly where you should be depending on age and how active you are. I've pretty active and I"m supposed to be right about 2100-2200 calories per day.  So, if I go below this even by 100 calories it all adds up. I'm running a deficit for the day.  Throw i some exercise and I'm down to 1400 calories for the entire day.  Do that 5 days in a row and you lose one pound.

Get the idea?  It all adds up.  Maybe you like to chart things and keep a book? It's kind of like saving money or keeping an eye on the bank account.  Maybe you don't like charts. I don't really keep a chart but it is good to read the labels and know where you are.  Oberweis is a company that has milk and ice cream and they have a Brownie Delight that is almost 1,000 calories!!   That is about 1/2 the daily allowance!!

Pay attention to the size of the meal too!! Many companies serve meals where the item is 1,500 calories just for 1 meal !!  The portions are huge !!!  If you buy your food, you control the portion size better.  Or, if you eat out, just don't eat it all !! Eat until you are full and then DONE !!!

These are all little things but they all add up.  Water, portion size and a little exercise can make a bigger difference than you think!!
